When Taew got her green card in 2019, we knew that in two years we had to apply for her 10-year green card.
That time is now.
Last weekend we spent the evenings printing and organizing photos of us and our travels over the last two years.
So many photos. I think Taew went a little overboard on the photos she wanted.
When we got married, to get Taew her permanent residency card, we needed to file form I-485 to adjust her status from an F-1 student visa to a permanent resident due to marriage. When someone changes their status in the US to a resident by means of getting married, there is a two year “evaluation” period of sorts. Within the 90 day window before the permanent resident card expires, a second form (I-751) needs to be filed. This form is a petition to remove conditions on her residence in the US. This form is required for Taew to remain here.
After two long nights taping photos to paper and adding captions to them, putting the photos and supporting documents into plastic page sleeves, assembling everything into a 3-ring binder, constantly double-checking we had everything and the form was signed by both of us, and writing the $680 check, everything was finally complete.
On August 31st, over my lunch break, I drove to a USPS post office, slipped the completed binder into a flat rate box and mailed it off to Phoenix, Arizona.
Now we wait again.
