Last year was a crazy year.
We had major plans that had to be canceled but we survived.
Like Any Other Year
The year began normally.
We needed more shelf space. The dinning room area had a lot of extra space with a large flat wall. A trip to Lowe’s and $500 later, I spent a weekend assembling 3 closet organization shelves with an added base unit. The shelves are currently housing extra plates, items from our travels, and LEGO sets.
I took Taew to a Blue Man Group concert at the Tulsa PAC. I’ve seen them a few times but after seeing the commercial and watching multiple YouTube videos showing what they do, she really wanted to go.
At the end of January, we went back to the Tulsa PAC to see Harry Potter in Concert. We watched the movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban while an orchestra played all of the music.
Covid-19 Chaos at Disney
Before Covid-19 shutdown the world, our friends and us decided to go to Disney World. We planned to be there for a week with 5 days at Disney.
This was Taew’s first time to Florida and her first time to Disney World. Checked another state off the list.
The trip began normally. We flew out of Tulsa early in the morning, down to Houston (IAH) and then on to Orlando (MCO). We arrived before all of my friends so we drove around looking for a place to eat. We found a Thai / Lao restaurant called Sticky Rice and went crazy ordering a lot of food.
We met up with my friends and then….the bad news hit. Because of Covid-19, Disney was closing in a few days so we could not be there for all 5 planned days.
Instead of searching for flights to leave immediately, we decided to make the best of it and go to the parks. One good thing is the parks were really empty.
After spending 3 days at Disney World, the parks finally closed. Disney Springs was still open for another day so the group of us spent a day shopping. I spent most of the day on hold with United Airlines trying to move up our return flights by two days.
One of the last days in Florida, we made a trip out to Cocoa Beach. Taew got to stand in the Atlantic Ocean and become a sand mermaid.
After figuring out how to move our flights back to Tulsa up by a few days and being on hold with United waking around Disney Springs, we were able to make it home before everything finally shut down.
I ended up working from home for 2 months. I made a work setup on the dinning room table. Taew was working at a restaurant so they remained open but were drive thru only.
